36/100 ‘some little slut from the hill’

‘and if I do not speak soon, some little slut from the hill or the shore
will have you to kirk and to bed and to bairn-making;
and what is authority in a place if a yoke cannot be put on a serf …?’
[from ‘Elizabeth Sweyn, widow, at her writing desk in the hall’ , George Mackay Brown, from ‘Travellers’]

  1. She's very purple. Is that a slutty colour?

    1. She's a young widow, lusting after a passing labourer, writing a letter to summon him to the hall. Eventually she tears it up ... (Susan on 100 days of Summer likened it to a witches womb, which I thought very apt)
